My daughter got fleas from my mom cats when they were infested (all but one has been treated now). The one cat not treated yet, keeps scratching herself open, so she can't be treated until the sores heal. Otherwise it could get in to her blood stream and poison her. I keep trying to pick them off, but her hair is so thick that it is very hard to get them unless they are at the hairline.
I need a shampoo recipe that I can quickly make at home to help her. Before someone says to make sure it is fleas and not lice, my daughter is only 19 months old and not in daycare. No one else in the house was exposed to lice so, I know it is fleas. I vacuum multiple times a day, and we keep the house as clean as possible. Please share a recipe to help my daughter, please!

I would use Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth on your daughter's hair and on your cat at the same time. It is safe for humans and animals. And it works. My dog and I had fleas and also my carpet.
It's a recipe for pets as well as humans.
1/2 cup of cider vinegar
1/2 cup of Dawn dish soap
1/2 cup of water
Mix together, then saturate hair being mindful of avoiding eyes. Let sit for 2-3 minutes, then rinse well with warm water. That should do it!
Does it still work using just regular vinigar vs cider vinigar?
Make a paste of baking soda and water. Rub this into her ahir and scalp. Leave it on for 10 minutes nnd rinse thoroughly. Then towel dry
You can also use baby shampoo it kills fleas. I use it on my dogs so if it gets in their eyes it won't burn.
Is this actually proven?? I am desperate to be rid as we are carrying on us around the home and keep re infesting, have been fighting.this nightmare since about.February this year and being someone ocd regarding cleanliness I can honestly say I think I've had a nervous breakdown , I do not have a life I spend all my time in battle with what.I believe to be fleas and dust mites bought in to our home from a work environment. Please help cx
Baby shampoo dosnt kill fleas, helps move them around,so the fall off kitties in the shower,
Dawn dish soap nightly. Mane and Tail conditioner. Leave Dawn in her hair during bath. Rinse. Condition. Works great leaves hair super soft. Good luck.
I've just been reading a post on ThriftyFun, suggesting that Dawn dishwashing detergent is good to kill bugs. I wonder if it would work for your toddler as a shampoo?
Bathe the cat in Dawn dish soap. Don't get it in the eyes and don't let the cat lick itself. Leave it soapy for about 10 minutes then rinse well. Repeat once a day until the fleas are gone. This won't poison the cat.
Guys I'm going threw the same thing with my Maltese I noticed he was constantly itching non stop. At first I thought he was allergic to his food but one day I bathed him & noticed black spots all over his belly & under his arms Boi o Boi. He was infested. I tried everything under the sun till someone told me ivory soap will kill them and I must say it helped a lot.
I let the soap sit on him for about 15 min just scrubbing him I repeated the bath for about three days straight then I came across a product called scratchex they sell it in Kmart that worked good as well now I'm moving on to a soap that saw a lady on you tube use which she makes herself made of cedarwood & tea tree oil & she bathed her small dog with & Omg I never seen so many fleas come off a dog at once. She barely scrubbed the dog, but it works wonders . It's good for dogs & humans.
Good luck to all & may you & pets find peace of mind.
As far as your cat you can't treat. The best thing to use is a pill you get from the vet. It is less than $20 and the capstan pill will not hurt the cats skin. Use Dawn shampoo to give the cat a bath. My vet says that dipping the cat is very bad for the cat.
I put Borax in my carpets and used a broom to get it deep in the carpet. Leave it for 6+ hours and then vacuum up the Borax and spray beds with an ecosmart bed bug and flea killer. For places that don't come in contact with humans or pets, use a stronger spray and let completely dry. You can use borox and ecosmart spray on your furniture. Make sure you use a handheld brush to scrub in the borax on the furniture. Leave for 6+ hours and vacuum up but make sure you get it all up.
I used lice shampoo on my hair and followed the directions. When I got in the shower, I lathered it up and rubbed it on my entire body. It helped them to stop biting me. You need to vaccum your carpets daily and immediately empty the bag or canister outside far from your house.
If you have fleas in your yard, they sell at home depot spray that attaches to the hose and you can spray your whole yard. Then put Borax around your whole house, the stuff they sell at the hardware store is not as good.
Try Dawn dish soap! It kills the fleas and doesn't harm the animals.
It probably is just fleas..but I just wanted you to know. You can get lice from the grass outside you don't have to get them from other people... And you can always do stuff to prevent bugs in hair.
