I have this issue which I have been dealing with for the past maybe 3 months. It started when I moved into my new place 3 months ago where I though I had bed bugs. The sensation I experience is almost like a stray hair touching my skin or some invisible bug jumping and crawling on me. I occasionally get bites and I have a rash on the inside of both forearms. The bites are mostly on the backs of my legs and inner arms. They were worse at the start and have left some pretty big bite marks on the backs and sides of my legs and my bum which still haven't disappeared.
The issue is the worst at night when I'm in bed, but I notice it during the daytime too. At night it feels like little insects jumping on my face and backs of my legs, and I can hear them bouncing off my pillow and crawling on my bed sheets by my ear, but I can't see anything. I also get a crawling sensation in my hair, but no biting.
I have moved house since and it seems like the issue has followed me. I have called into the pharmacy a number of times over the past couple of months trying to identify the problem. The first time the pharmacist reckoned it was sand flies and the last time I was in, about a month ago, the pharmacist gave me scabies cream to try which has not seemed to have worked. The pharmacist didn't reckon it was scabies because there was no evidence of trails under the skin, but I shared a bed with someone for a number of nights and now he has the sensation too. None of my housemates are affected by this.
I hoovered my entire room, washed my bed sheets, and the clothes that I had worn recently in a hot wash and beat my mattress to see if that would help. The sensation went away for a week, but it seams to have returned.
Any suggestions as to what I could do would be a great help! It's driving me bananas trying to get to the bottom of this.
Thanks

I just answered the same question with just about the same story on it. These are called no see um bugs that come out at night. The bites are horrible and hurt so badly. For right now get some good mint oil and wear this on your skin day and night to stop them from biting you. They hate the smell of the oil and can not bite through it.
