Make sure everything is clean so when you do get rid of them you will not be inviting them back.
The best product I have ever used for killing bugs is Diatomaceous Earth (Food Grade ONLY). It is safe for humans and pets so you can spread it around inside cabinets, in the bathroom, all corners of the house (carpet or tile floors).
Just be careful and do not breath it in as it is a find powder but it is easy to use and easy to buy. You can find it at many local stores (Lowe's, Home Depot, etc - just call first so you know they have it), all tractor/farm stores, on-line (amazon, Walmart, many others).
Here is a good description of how to use the product and one site to purchase.

I had a huuuge problem with them once. My husband and I cleaned EVERYTHING then lined the problem area with cockroach killing boric acid. Worked like a charm. Haven't seen one since that happened (about 7 years ago).
I moved into a home and after living there for a week found out the home was infested with roaches. The home had a dishwasher. The dishwasher broke and needed to be replaced. That was when we found the nesting place for the roaches. They were living in the installation behind the dishwasher. Once this major nesting area was cleaned and removed it was easy to get rid of the rest of the roaches.
A friend told me to use fabric softener spray, lemon peels and set out coffee traps. This did the trick for me.
You can use boric acid alone, or mix with sugar. They eat it and go back into the walls and die.
Leave a bundle of bay leaves. Ammonia is a top class house hold roaches home remedy in these situations. Add a cup full of ammonia in a bucket of water and flush it down sinks and toilets to clean out the pipes. The strong pungent smell will ward off the roaches nesting in pipes and sewers.
