Getting Rid of a Snake in Hanging Plant?

I have two hanging fern plants on my front porch and my son just informed me he saw a snake in one! My husband works away from home during the week and I don't know how to get rid of it. Any suggestions would be so, so, appreciated.

The snake was most probably just exploring for food and was in the planter when your son spotted it. It should have moved on by now; if not, it may be injured and need help from your local animal shelter.

Addendum-place the planters on the ground and leave them for a few days to make sure the snake has a way to leave, if he hasn't already.

That snake got in there, and it can get out! Don't pull the planter down, snakes can strike 3 times their length!
