Getting the Perm You Want?

I have very thick hair. When I get a perm, I have to pay extra for the time it takes to roll it as well as the extra bottles of chemicals. I want tight, big curls.

I can get these curls myself using pillow rollers and wet hair. No product at all, just a shampoo. Then I roll the hair when wet, sleep on it, and take out the rollers when dry the next morning. It always looks great when I do this.

However, I went to a salon once and was told they could give me the look I wanted - I showed them a picture of myself with the curls I wanted. They used my same pillow rollers and I even asked the girl to piggy back the rollers, but she didn't - the perm looked like a spiral perm when all was said and done. I do not want a spiral perm.

What is the name of the perm I need to ask for when I go to a salon in order to get this look? Again, I do not want a spiral perm!

(I am white, have really thick and coarse hair. It is about two inches past the base of my neck when straight. I am totally willing to cut it shorter once I have the curls I want. Again, see a pic of Halle Berry from 2017 Oscars.)
