Going Back to Natural Hair Color After Bleaching?

So I went bleached blonde about 3 months back. Now I'm pregnant and can't be bothered to keep on top of the roots. I can't afford the hairdresser and would really like to go back to brunette, but I'm scared it will go green. What dye do people recommend or colors? Anything has to be better than bleached blonde hair with pure black roots!

You can only darken 1-2 shades at a time at home. Once you dye your hair, wait 2-6 weeks and repeat. You will have to be patient.

You really shouldn't be treating your hair/scalp with chemicals while you're pregnant. If you need something done (if the look is killing you) there are plenty of awesome temporary/herbal dyes for you.

Also remember temporary hair color can and will probably act as permanent color in bleached or light blonde hair. So be careful in the color you choose.

Start with light color with pigmentation.. meaning you are going to need a red / filler in the color you choose

Going from bleached blond to black can be done in one process. I can guarantee you the results will not look natural. You mention 'going back to brunette', then mention 'pure black roots'. Which is it?

Most black hair colorings have a blue base. This blue could combine with any gold or yellow in your bleached hair and produce a greenish cast. You should be able to select a brunette shade without any blue and eliminate the chance of a green cast.

I know of no studies with results indicating hair dye would be harmful to the fetus. If you're concerned about this, consult a doctor. In the sense of 'Better safe than sorry', you could always have a heavy amount of hair pulled through a frosting cap and the hair colored brunette. This way, no 'dye' will come in contact with your scalp. And by choosing a dark brunette, you would lessen any chances of green, plus the hair would look more natural.

If you can't afford a stylist, maybe a friend or neighbor would pull the hair through a cap for you.

Whatever you decide and whatever brand/type color you use, DO A STRAND TEST FIRST!
