Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 105 Posts
This is a great craft for small children of all ages. They love to make these to hang in their windows, on the front porch, or to display in their room hanging from the ceiling. I was teaching a class for handicap children here and was asked to help them make suncatchers. The only help these children needed was a little help to drill the hole in the suncatcher when it was finished.
Total Time: 1 hour
Yield: 1 sun-catcher
Supplies:
- old CDs
- black permanent marker
- fishing line
- drill and small drill bit
- gold fingernail polish
- gold glitter gel
- tape
- fingernail polish remover

Steps:
- Clean the CD by scratching a small area on the disk. Take the tape and place next to this area and pull the tape towards you.

- After the disk is clean take a small cloth and some fingernail polish remover and clean the front and the back of the plastic. You should use a fingernail polish remover that does not have acetone in it.

- On the side of the DC that did not have the label draw your butterfly. Use the black permanent marker to draw all the lines and then color in the black area in the wing.

- Turn the CD over and use the gold fingernail polish to apply a layer of gold polish to the back of the butterfly. You want to make sure you cover the entire area of the butterfly.

- Now touch up the butterfly with the marker to make sure all the black areas shine through. Draw a black line around the outside of the gold paint.

- Now add a layer of gold glitter glue to the front side of the CD where you drew the butterfly. I like this because when the light shines on the glitter glue it adds more color to the room and the streaks in the glue from the paintbrush will give it a great look.

- Drill a small hole in the top of the CD and tie a piece of nylon to the hole.
- Make a loop at the end of the nylon to hang the suncatcher.

That is so very kind of you. I too love your creations in the kitchen and this also takes a special kind of talent.
