This block is a way to use up smaller size quilt scraps. You can make a potholder, a table runner, or a quilt using this fun design.
Total Time: 1 1/2 hours
Yield: 1
Supplies:
- pins
- scissors
- fabric scraps
- solid color scraps
- quilting square template
- cutting mats
- rulers
- thread
- sewing machine
- rotary cutter
Steps:
- Cut thirteen 2 1/2 inch squares from fabric scraps. Arrange into a design as pictured below.
- I use a rotary cutter and cutting mat for the following steps. For solid color fabric, called "setting triangles" cut two 4 1/2" by 4 1/2" squares.Cut once on each diagonal to make four triangles. You will have eight triangles when this step is completed. Then, cut two 3 by 3 inch squares for the 4 corner triangles. Cut each on the diagonal one time to make four corner triangles.
- Lay the triangles around the edges of the scrap design. Begin sewing the rows together (except for the corner diagonals). Press each row and then sew the rows together. Last, stitch the corner triangles on to block.
- Trim the block to an eight inch square.
