My Hoover dual power pet max shampooer handle will not stay upright or lock into place. It's like a piece is missing? I don't want to have to spend hours on the phone if it's not something I can fix. Has anyone had this problem?

The locking mechanism needs to be replaced. For parts contact - www.hoover.com/
First - always try resetting an appliance before making repairs.
You may not need to do this but just in case;
Unplug your vacuum cleaner - wait several hours - plug in and see if it helped.
Do you have your manual? Does it give any information on this problem?
If no manual available you can download one from Hoover and they have a support email that might offer some help.

One way to check it out is to contact your local Sears Service Center (your zip code) and ask them for help. Usually you can take it in to their service department and ask what part you need.
Usually - they are very good and will look at your cleaner and tell you what you need. They can order the parts and send them to your house. There are usually always lots of YouTube videos showing how to replace any part on these machines.
Yes. Just bought one and it will not stay in place. Any solutions? Help.
Just purchased Hoover Pro Clean Pet Carpet Washer. Right out of the box the handle does not lock in the upright position.
I just got my brand new out of the box and it won't stay standing upright... Its like something is missing to lock it into place or something's in the way of it locking. This is very frustrating.
I have the same problem - right out of the box the handle does not lock into place - comes right off when I push the button to activate the shampoo feature.
Insert the shaft press down and twist it it will lock
I bought the Hoover Pro Clean Pet carpet washer, and just as everyone else has described above, the handle does not stand up or lock into place. Is as off there is something missing. I requested a new unit, which they shipped me, and the exact same issue is going on with the replacement cleaner. You would think that it would lock into a standing position, since there is a Handle Release foot pedal. This is beyond frustrating. Sure, once can happen, but the same thing twice in a row??
Step 1
Any suggestions, besides calling them and requesting a third cleaner?
same here. Just purchased it at Walmart and a brand new one can't stay upright.
I was having the same issue first you remove the white plastic on the bottom of the handles shaft by pushing in both sides and pulling up it'll be slightly tight but don't worry it shouldn't break anything. Then once that is out you will see the main spring look around it and you'll see thin metal wrapped around it and that metal is attached to the ball mechanism push it down with a flat head screwdriver till it's lined up with the ball.
Just push it forward with some pressure. It will lock
Could you link a video for this? I can't figure out what you mean. All I see are screws and nothing to pull up on.
Worked like a charm, pushed forward, snapping sound, now it's locked!
Same here. This is not good for Hoover. Big inconvenience!
Yes, I just got this item and had same problem. After really looking at the handle release foot peddle, I realized you have to make the green lower part of this peddle ease under the grey nub coming from the main base.
Thank you. That worked.
I just took a brand new Hoover Pet carpet shampooer out of the box and the only thing that does not work is the handle lock. wont turn! Very irritating to spent $150 on something I cannot use, nor return to the store!
I am having the same issue the lock/unlock know will not turn, can not attach the handle, it will not lock on and it does not lock upright either. Have you found a solution?
