Basically, most curtains will work for a sliding door. However, you should consider having them tie off at the side during the day. At night you can let them hang straight down. You could also go with vertical blinds. This one works well on these types of doors too. Otherwise, use a drawstring curtain that you can pull the string to open and close them during the day and evening hours.

I would use long panels and a curtain rod.

We hung 6 shear panels. The panels have grommets that the rod holding them up, goes through so you can give them a good tug and not worry about tearing. We have high ceilings so the curtains start about a foot above the door and just brush the floor.

There are several things to consider before making a final decision on curtains or drapes for your doors.
- Are you looking to have privacy at night but open during the day?
- Is this a set of doors that one stays closed all the time or do you use (open & close) both doors?
- Are you wanting curtains light weight or sheer or will you want a heavier "light stopping" material?
- Or, do you need a heavier drape material?
- In any case, a regular curtain rod will probably not work because you will be sliding your curtains to open and close so the rod will have to be sturdy and well connected to the wall or it will probably fall after a few uses.
- Most people use a round drapery rod and fasten it to the wall either above or to the sides of the door.
- These rods are usually sold with wall fasteners that stand several inches away from the wall so the curtains will slide easily and not catch in the door pathway.
- if you wish to have the full door see through then you may wish to place the fasteners a foot away from the side of the door. This will give room for the curtain to expose the full door.
- Some people just have the curtains move to one door and only expose the door that is in use.
- Curtains/drapes can be purchased in all styles: some curtains have round pieces that slide on the rod to open and close (most common).
- If you use drapes you may want a style that has a drawstring to pull to open and close.
- Most all department stores have all of this and most have curtains and drapes hanging in position so you can see what style suits you best.
- You can go on line and find examples at Target, JCP, Amazon, etc.
- Here is a good site to review before making a trip to the store.
