I recently inherited my great grandparent's Lane cedar chest and I don't really have room for it. I'm looking to get rid of it but have no clue of the value. It has some scratches and such but the inside seems nice. The lock is still the original one so I'm not sure if it would be more valuable as such or switching to the child safety lock. The style number is 2596-3 and serial number is 150130. I'm guessing that's dated March 10, 1951? Thanks for any help.

I am seeing some scratches on the front of the chest which will decrease the value of the chest when sold. I am not sure where you are living or if you want to try and sell this online. If you check the asking price and the actual sales price you'll see they differ quite a bit. Most people start asking around $175-250 for one of these chests. The ones I have found that sold recently normally sell for around $135. If you are trying to sell this locally I would suggest that you try and do a bit of research for your area.
Lane cedar chests are still selling but most are listed for sale as 'local pick up only' which means the area where located is dictating the final 'true value' and your area could be similar - good or bad - when it comes to people actually interested in buying/owning a cedar chest.
I did find a very similar chest listed for sale on eBay so you might want to place a watch on this one to see if it sells. The area will be different but may give you a starting point.
Asking price is $149.99 with local pick up only.

If you can clean up some of the scratches you may be able to sell your chest in your area. You might try listing it on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, letgo, offeruo, etc.
Start the price at $250 with best offer considered and local pick up only. Leave it listed for several weeks and lower the price if no one makes an offer.
Lane a very popular brand name. Most online have a starting asking price around $175 and up, depending on condition and wood type. Here are some ideas to what others are asking. - www.chairish.com/
Maybe try contacting Lane regarding the chest and they may be able to help you.

(On a side note: If you're planning on keeping your chest, Old English Light Scratch Cover does a really amazing job of hiding small scratches.)
