This is my first project using a triangle quilting ruler.
Total Time: 2 hours
Yield: 1
Supplies:
- 3" fabric strips
- scissors
- rotary cutter
- quilting mat
- triangle ruler
- pins
- sewing machine
- button, optional
Steps:
- First, sew three 3 inch strips together. Press. Lay triangle ruler on top of strips. Place the triangle one direction and cut with rotary cutter, then flip the other direction and cut with rotary cutter. You will end up with six pieces. Arrange the pieces in a hexagon shape as desired.
- Second, sewing two pieces at a time, right sides together, stitch from the wider part of the piece to the center. Add the third piece to the first two pieces and sew. Repeat for the other three pieces. Sew, right sides together, the three pieces on one side to the three pieces on the other side. Place on top of a piece of batting and pin and cut around the batting. Repeat with a solid piece of fabric for the back. Sandwich the batting on the bottom, wrong side of backing fabric to batting, right side of pieced hexagon facing right side of backing. Pin around the entire hexagon, leaving a two inch opening. Stitch around the perimeter. Turn inside out through the opening.
- Third, using the end of a pencil or knitting needle, etc., poke into the inside to bring out the points of the hexagon. Turn raw edges of fabric at the opening to inside and pin. Top stitch around the perimeter. If desired, sew a button in the middle.
