Home Remedies for Dog's Red Spots?

An itchy red spot on a dog's belly. We have a 6 month old German Shorthair Pointer. She has recently developed these red spots on her stomach. I don't know what it is or what it's from and I haven't had her to a vet for it. It clearly itches because she'll lick n lick at it even sometimes biting at it. Does anyone have an idea of what I might be dealing with or any home remedies that would help stop the itch and or cure this?

This could be from a food allergy or even from fleas. It can also happen from the type of soap you wash the dog with. Clearly your dog has an allergy to something and it needs to be looked at. For now you can use some Apple cider vinegar to apply to the spots. This won't harm the dog in anyway and will help to stop some of the itching and biting the dog is having now.

Any change in the skin, especially one that is causing your dog discomfort, should be checked by the vet.

Any number of things can cause the itching your dog is having. I dont know of any easy answers here. You will need to have a Vet evaluate what is going on so you know how to treat it.

Remember anything you put on this is likely to be licked off by your dog and must be safe for him to ingest. Your dog must be very uncomfortable. Go see the Vet.

My 11 month old mini daschund mix has suddenly gotten these red spots on her tummy. First just a couple, now they have spread to her chest also. She is definitely in distress, what could this be?

What could be the cause? She has been crying and biting at herself, and wheezing too. I don't want to lose my little baby girl.

These rashes can have a variety of causes, from a bacterial skin infection, Impetigo, to a more serious underlying condition, such as Cushing's disease. Take your dog to a vet.

Photos of these spots would be very helpful. If it is red, inflamed skin and / or crusty skin then it is most likely Contact Dermatitis or Impetigo. This occurs when areas with thin hair or no hair come into contact with an allergen, such as grass, melting ice, poison ivy, soaps / shampoos, floor cleaners, carpet deodorizers, flea medication, insecticides, dyes, and materials such as rubber, wool, leather, plastic, or metals (nickel). This itch may turn into an all over body rash. Symptoms usually develop after a period of repeated physical contact and skin sensitization, and contact dermatitis occurs most often on the stomach, the scrotum, and/or the legs or in other places where there is thin hair or no hair. Switch out your laundry detergent and check your cleaning supplies. Your dog may be allergic to the chemicals used to wash the bedding, the floor, or the couch.

If there are itchy spots, red bumps, and hair loss, then your dog is allergic to flea saliva, the rash looks inflamed. It's on the belly because fleas avoid the paws and face.
To treat hot spots you must ask for a vet prescription.

Anything that affects her can be serious as she is very small and what can be okay for a larger dog could be very bad for her.
Talk to her vet and try to make an appointment as soon as possible. Be sure to write down everything you can remember about this problem.
Date you first noticed the spots
rapid increase?
Puppy scratching/whining?
Normal bowel movements?
Eating and drinking water as normal?
All of this information will help your vet find the problem.

If you do not have a regular vet then you will also need all information about age, shots/vaccinations/etc.

Anything different than normal with any pet should warrant a trip to the vet ASAP. Your vet is the professional and the only one that can examine and treat your fur babies. Don't delay, as things can happen much faster with mini dogs, that a bigger dog might take in stride. I'm sure you want the best for your pet, and the vet is the best choice. Good luck !!!!
