I bought an over the counter med for deworming my cats. I gave it to them four days ago and now they seem really sick and I haven't seen any results in their stool. How long does it take and can they live long happy lives with worms?

Some over the counter wormers are rough on cats. Be especially careful with kittens. Find a Vet for a wormer that works and doesn't make your cat sick. Cats can tolerate some worms, but it depends on what kind they are and how old the cat is and how many they are. Check you local shelter for low cost Vet care. I am sure they will help you.
There are home remedies for many things when dealing with cats and people as well. You always say take them to the Vet. Many people can't afford a Vet for say 4-6 cats. People that try to rescue neighborhood cats have to pay most vets 40+ each cat so please do more to represent other cat owners who have discovered cheaper fixes.
If there are people on here who have good, low-cost worming treatments that don't actually harm the cat, they are free to post them here and people are free to try them.
If a person feels that it's better to take the cat to a vet, they will post that. They are free to do so.
It takes almost 2 weeks to clear it up most likely it comes from fleas that's how they really get worms
