Listerine, the amber color one, is a good home remedy for dandruff. Put it in a squeeze bottle and apply directly to the scalp. Leave it in for 5-10 minutes, then shampoo. I have also applied it by dampening a wash cloth with it, but the bottle is faster. The generic brand works just as well. It may take several times to clear it up.
Use a high alcohol mouthwash, think original Listerine. After washing, pour a generous capful or more (depending on the length of your hair) onto your scalp and hair massaging it in well; leave it on for 2-4 minutes then rinse thoroughly. You may notice it foaming, this is normal.
You can even do this between shampoos simply by wetting your hair and applying the mouthwash. My husband swears by this as he takes medication that causes a buildup up of dandruff.
Why would you not just use one of the many excellent dandruff shampoos on the market? Head & Shoulders cured mine. For more severe cases there are other more specialized brands, all available over the counter, Selsen Blue being one. Why fool around with home remedies when you have something easy to get that actually works?
Maybe because dandruff shampoo is almost 4.00 a bottle.
I googled it and found these 6 items you can use to help with your problem.
You might end up spending 4.00 a year. That's why it's on "Thrifty" Fun.
