I have a 13 1/2 year old black Lab with colitis. I can't afford the ID food from the vet anymore. What is a good home-made food for a 100 pound dog?

I/D food is the easy and more expensive alternative to hamburger and white rice. Cook up a big batch (do not fry), freeze it, and heat it up as needed. That way you aren't making it every night and you aren't spending a fortune on it in the store.
Tips:
Malox can be used in dogs if he gets an upset belly. Try syringing 6 cc into his mouth when his tummy is a bit sour.
Vanilla yogurt is a great supplement and easy to digest. Maybe a cup before bedtime will help keep him on the right track.

Can dogs who have ulcerative colitis eat peanut butter in small amounts?
It could cause abdominal pain. Get the ok from your vet.
My vet said NO for our boy, but yours may tell you different. You have to be so careful with this. Our Clarence had it as a pup and it was very scary as they can dehydrate very quickly from having the diarrhea.
He can't eat any dark meat chicken or turkey or chicken skins, no ground beef, no peanut butter, very limited cheese (only a small piece when he needs a pill). See if your vet has a sheet of yes and no items like ours does.
Post back with an update! Sending healing wishes to the pup!!
I received a NO from my vet as well. I would be careful and get an okay from your vet just in case. Hate that your pup has UC as well :(.
Good luck!
I am afriad to say yes or no to this question. it is hard to tell the real condition of the dog and only your vet really knows this answer. Before trying this I would really speak to your vet and see what they say. There are many vets who will not allow you to give a dog peanut butter if they have ulcerative colitis.
