Sprinkle baby powder along baseboards and across door entrances. They will not cross over. I stopped them from coming into the kitchen by sprinkling a bit of powder across the doorway into the kitchen.
Ants also won't cross a line of salt. For anthills outside, a relatively safe method is to pour large amounts of boiling water on the hill.
The 20 Mule Team Borax , and "Eggo" , or any Pancake , Waffle syrup , Mix 40% Borax to 60% Eggo syrup , put the sloppy mix on a piece of shiny cardboard box material , and put it anywhere you see a working Ant trail , or group , Just let them Put on The Feedbag , and go home to kill All The rest of Their relatives .
Get a couple of backyard hens. They will literally destroy an anthill in about half an hour. Inside the house I always used chalk powder. It clogs up the openings on their sides where they breathe and dries them out. Perfectly safe, and they take it back home with them.
