I love honey baked ham but the price is way beyond my means. My son loves my soup made from leftover ham bone cooked with dried 8 bean mix, so last year he bought a soup starter ham bone (which they keep frozen) and gave it to me.
I was shocked to find that there was about 2 1/2 pounds of good ham for slicing and sandwiches on their bone. Since they use a machine to spiral cut the ham, they don't bother with what is left on the bone when the machine stops. My local store sells it for $2.29 per pound of bone/leftover. For $10.85, we not only had a wonderful ham soup for about 12 people but about 3 full meals of great ham for 4 people.
What a bargain and no one knows about it.
