I just bought a brand new Hoover pro clean pet carpet cleaner. The problem is I took it out of the box and it won't stay standing upright? Is there something that I'm missing here? Seems like something's either missing to keep it locked into place or something's in the way of it to lock.

Found this comment in the Walmart reviews; might help. <Secondly, getting it to stand up and lock...you have to push down the handle release with your foot, and push the handle as far forward as possible, then let go of the release. Once you do it a couple times, it gets easier, and you won't have to hold down the handle release with your foot any more to get it locked.>
Your Hoover pro clean pet carpet cleaner must be very sturdy in the upright locked position, without wiggling.
Check again if you assembled it correctly.
The manual says tti.a.bigcontent.io/
2. HOW TO ASSEMBLE
2.1 Stand base in upright position. Push handle onto base.
2.2 Turn dial counter clockwise to LOCK position. Dial
should stop when locked and handle should feel secure.
2.3 Place clean water tank securely on handle above dirty
water tank until it snaps into place.

Answer: "No, that isn't normal at all. You may want to secure you containers. It should lock and stand securely. Is everything level underneath? Turn it upside down without the containers and do a visual. Other than that there is a manufacturer's contact telephone number on the booklet__you may want to call them. It should not topple over."
If it is brand new, return it.
Your instructions are either not clear enough or there is a missing part. Since this is new you can either return it for another or you can try contacting the company for help:
Could it be defected? I'd go exchange it since it's brand new. Or you could call customer service at (800) 944-9200 and ask (it may be more common than we think.)
I had this problem too. It took a little more force, quick and fast, to get handle to go into upright position and stay there. You'll here that all knowing "click" when its in correct upright position.
