I am living with my daughter and we all went to a shelter and adopted Pixel a Chiweenie. She was already potty trained and absolutely fits us perfectly. We have had her over 6 months. I live in the basement. I got new carpet and as soon as she came downstairs she went pee. The next time she went poo. Now everytime she finds her way downstairs she poos. I started shutting my door and so now she poos at the bottom of the stairs in front of the door. What in the world do we do? I hate not allowing her downstairs with me. I can't let her out of my sight when she is downstairs. Help!

She is either marking the new carpet as hers, or perhaps there is a smell to it that is causing her to do this. i would phone the vet for suggestions.
