House Trained Dog Pooping in the House?

House Trained Dog Pooping in the HouseI have a 1 year old German Shepherd. He has been potty trained for 7 months with no accidents. This is even thru a full work day. He is not fixed yet. He began pooping in the house for the last week almost every day. Not at the same time and not after he ate. Odd and out of normal poops. We have a schedule and this has worked until now.

We have had 2 incidents in the same day and it started after this. First was a neighbor dog charged at us aggressively on our first morning outing. The dog ran once, I yelled and there was no contact to my dog from him. It just scared him from this random attack. He did not go potty and was really hovering near me, almost scared it would happen again. The same day we were doing some home remodeling and we had loud noises from the saws.
I am not sure if these are why, but if so, how can I reassure him he is safe in the yard to do his business.

Your dog has been through a traumatic experience. You will have to go through the retraining process again. Make sure you praise him for success and ignore the accidents.

It sounds like your just going to have to be extra patient and give him extra praise and rewards when he does go outside. He might be jumpy at first or want to come back in but if your diligent and consistent he will begin to trust that it is ok to be outside.

You have already identified the problem. When the dog tried to attack your dog.

  1. Currently your dog is afraid to leave the home again for his morning walks.
  2. He is afraid to try and go to the toilet on his walk in fear of the dog attacking him again.
  3. This happened so close to your home that he won't or doesn't want to go by this home again.
  4. When he sees this home he is in fear the other dog will leave it again and come after him.
  5. You are doing to have to try and find a new route to take in the morning for his walks.

  7. You might need to go to the other side of the road.
  8. Avoid going by this home as much as possible.
  9. You need to build back up his confidence and prove to him he is safe leaving your home.
  10. As for you backyard, you'll need to take him out in the yard every two hours.
  11. Stay with him and encourage him to go to the toilet.
  12. Maybe you'll need to take a ball for him to chance or play with him in the yard.
  13. He needs to know the yard is safe for him again and he can go in the yard without a dog attacking him.
  14. This will take some time and if you work with him, love him, and prove to him he is safe. He will start to go back in the yard to the toilet.
