House Training a Pit Bull Puppy?

House Training a Pit Bull Puppy - tan and white Pit puppyI bought a blue fawn Pit Bull when he was just a few months old. And now he is almost 5 months old. My boyfriend and I live together and we train him constantly to prevent pooping and peeing in the house. We both have had Pits before and this one just is very different and difficult to train. We got him puppy pads early on and we thought we finally had gotten him trained before we moved.

Even though every time we left home he would have the stuff in the house destroyed. We had tried tying him up with a leash when we left to go to the store and he chewed through that. So we got him a chain lease so that he couldn't chew through it.

Aside from that, every time I leave the house to go somewhere I let him out to potty first and reward him. When I return 5 minutes or 10 minutes later he has pooped and peed on our floors even after he had done all that outside.

Now we taught him early on to stay off our bed, because we got him a bed. Then he starting peeing on his bed. We constantly stay outside with this dog and he uses the bathroom and then still pees on the floor 5 minutes later. We have controlled his fluid intake in the morning, afternoon and at night. He gulps the whole bowl once we fill it in the morning, but it's not helping. He has recently been getting brave and jumping on the bed and urinated on the bed while I was asleep, not even 10 minutes after I had taken him out. I tell him, "No No", ever time. And he did it for a 3rd time, except this time it was while my boyfriend and I where on the bed. He urinated on my arm, he knows better than to do this. He just seems like he is beginning to act out. How to I stop this, all of this? Nothing is working.

It sounds like you may not have any other choice but to get the dog a crate to stay in when you are gone. He may need to be put in the crate and stay there if you leave the home. This can stop him from chewing up things around your home and peeing on the bed, floors or where ever else he pees and poops. Some dogs are just harder to train and they don't train easily. There are some dogs that are almost impossible to train and they will always act like this no matter what. Your dog is difficult and may need a trainer to get the job done right. You have done all you can and seem to know what you are doing. You may need to take him to classes to get him trained or hire one to come to your home.

It sounds like you guys have him on a schedule. He needs a visit to the Vet to make sure there are no underlying issues . Maybe the Vet can advise to test outcome!

Yes we do have him on a schedule he eats in the morning and night. And we monitor his liquid intake .. but he just still seems to be urinating and pooping in the house.

Directly after he has done the same outside.

I was having the same problem with my 3 month old pit. The only thing that worked for me was to take small bite size training treats outside with me when taking him to the bathroom. A few times of doing that and he was peeing and pooping multiple times within 10 minutes or so to get that treat. It also helps to feed and water for last time early evening and then take him out again before bed. Wait till morning, after taking him out to use bathroom, to refill water bowl again. As far as biting, gently hold mouth closed and roll him on his back until he stops trying to bite. This particular dog breed has to have a leader and unless you want them running the show later on when their 100lbs, It's best to show dominance and make them submit to you as their alpha at a young age.

I should add in my experience never hit or scream, instead a firm no with voice raised a little louder than normal works for me. You have to remember how many teeth they have moving and growing, without being able to tell you, so they have to have something to chew on other than your feet, lol. Every dog is a little different in training, but with some patience, routine and control you'll get there. Almost forgot, a good routine of daily exercise is crucial overall.

I would add lots of exercise. The pit bull is a high energy breed, and sometimes when he is misbehaving it is a sign he is understimulated.
