House Training an Adult Dog?

I have a 2 year old Pomapoo dog. For a few months he does really good, and does not potty in the house at all. Then he starts acting up and potties. We have a doggy door in our home, and he is fixed. We rarely catch him peeing in the house, but we know it's him. He shrivels down whenever we walk by where he had pottied before we even know he had went. Obviously he knows it's wrong. Once we find where he went, and get him in trouble he tries to be sneaky and hide where he pees and starts going somewhere else. He even pees on our bed! Why is he doing this? And what can we do to help him stop doing it?

Stopping a dog from peeing in the house:

  1. Even though you have a doggy door the dog doesn't want to use this.
  2. You have to determine why?
  3. Did he yave a bad experience with the door.
  4. Was it locked once when he need to go out?
  5. Dio he have a problem with the door?
  6. Once you determine why he isn't using the door is when you can start working on the problem.
  7. You can't hit the dog or rub his nose in the pee.
  8. This will only make it worse and he will keep doing this all the time.
  9. You are basically going to have to re-train your dog.

  11. 30 minutes after eating you'll have to make sure the dog goes outside and pees and poops.
  12. Every hour or two you'll have to make the dog go out in the yard to the bathroom.
  13. Before the dog goes down for the night make sure he goes outside to the bathroom.
  14. You will need to keep an eye on the dog and train yourself to make he go out to the backyard and go to the bathroom.
  15. After he gets the hang of this again you can try for one or two days to see if he will start going out again on his own. If not, continue to take him out.
  16. Do not reward him with a treat. This only means he is training you and your're not training him.
