We have just adopted a Lab mix. She is 10 months old. How do we potty train and train her in general? Her name is Bella. She was spayed the day before we could bring her home. We have had her 5 days now. She keeps peeing/pooping in the house. She very seldom goes potty outside. She will pee outside, but not often. I am overwhelmed with this, and she steps in it and it gets over everything.
We just found out today what happened to her, and it is heartbreaking. Bella is so sweet and lovable. She does chew things too, but I assume that is the puppy in her. How do I train her? For potty training and training in general. I thought about a crate, but not sure how she will do.

Potty training takes time. patience and consistency. Don't hesitate to seek advice from a local vet or dog trainers if you have difficulty training your pup.
I hear your frustration and sadness about Bella's previous conditions.
First I suggest getting her to a vet just to make sure she doesn't have an underlying health condition. Pooping and peeing issues are often red flags of a health challenge.
If she gets a clean bill of health, talk to get vet about a good training program. Crate training is the best!
If you need an extra boost like we did when we had issues with Clarence when he was first adopted, we had a woman come to the house and one visit made all the difference.
Puppy Prozac may help also. My sister dog was on it until her issues gradually resolved.
Love and patience are critical to the process. Prayers for all!
Pet Smart and similar stores have dog training classes.
Since you have no second doggie in the house, I suggest you take your dog outdoors to potty every 2-2.5 hours and to the same location each time. The dog will know what it is to do once it goes to that spot.
Also, if your dog is drinking a lot more water after hard play or summer time weather, you will need to take it outdoors sooner. While the dog is indoors, you can get her washable doggie diapers to wear at night time and insert a feminine pad to hold more liquid.
Take the dog outside when you first wake up and before bedtime and before you go somewhere. You can buy underpads and hope she will use it when you are away from home. When she does potty, reward her with a treat and praise her and pet her and tell her what a good girl she is. She'll soon catch on to what you expect her to do, but you must be consistent with this task until she's fully trained. If she is stubborn, it may take her longer to learn.
Another idea you might try is to get some animal urine scent at the hunting dept. and put some in the grass and she'll sniff at it and know where to mark her place. My dogs helped train each other and they went outside together, so they could watch and learn and they like to go right where the other dog went.
As the Lab grows up, she will hold her urine longer. Regular training is the key to helping her be potty broke in the house and don't get discouraged over missed duty call.
Take the dog out 10 to 15 min after eating or drinking or after playing and running around ,when dog first wakes up ect...Since you can't always watch when the dog is drinking and eating .let's say on your day off put the food up after they eat or drink then take them out give the dog praise or a treat if it goes ,as soon as the dog wakes take them out there just like we are the more positive reinforcement the quicker they learn .when the food n water are down all day it's hard to control .but you can't really put the water up it needs water that's why on your day off when you can monitor do it it's just going to give you more chances to succeed and praise instead of always being to late.
