We've been blessed with a new little pup that we adopted from the local shelter. They picked him up running loose with another dog so there is limited information about the pup's background. They called him a Pit Bull mix, possibly Terrier Pit mix.
I've studied many photos of some of the older and smaller Pit Bulls from well known bloodlines in the 60s going clear back the the Colby dogs imported from Ireland in the late 1800s. Many of them had very similar physical appearances as well as those cute upright ears that curved forward.
Is it possible that Styx could be a pure blood Pit? Possibly one that has the old small blood line that was common 100 years ago or more likely just a runt? Styx is estimated to be right at a year old and is right at 30 lbs. He shows some incredible wrestling ability when he spars with our Rat Terrier mix and doesn't show any fear when approached by larger aggressive dogs.
We also successfully house broke him in less than two weeks and he absolutely loves our kids and anyone else who will give him attention. I told my wife if we could clone him we'd sell a million of him.
If anyone wants to weigh in on whether he's full Pit or a mix and what the mix may be we'd love to hear.
Thank you

I love his name! Great band too!!!
The best way to tell is to talk to your vet. He/she can look at his teeth, jaws, bones, etc. and give you how they stack up against breed standards.
He looks like he has a lot of a what we refer to as Pit in him. There could be a few drops of another terrier.
There are DNA tests that may or may not help. My friends who have done them were very disappointed as much of their fur kids DNA came back as unknown or uncertain. I just talked to one gal whose came back with totally inaccurate info based on everything she knew as fact.
I say love him to pieces and enjoy!!! You have a smart cookie there that you got him potty trained in 2 weeks. My best girl who has since crossed the rainbow bridge, took almost 2 years (she was a dachshund and was the prettiest bulb on the tree but not the smartest. Sometimes she would just forget. She lived to 17 1/2 so I still loved her more than anything!
He looks like a mix to me, but you cant always tell by looks. Have a DNA test done if it is important to know.

Looks like theres a bit of jack russell there!
Thank you for the feedback. I had included more picks but they did not include them after the administrators approved my post. My vet was at a complete loss, however this is the second time that someone mentioned jack russel terrier.
On a different note, I have worked with some breeders to establish bloodlines using my background in genetics and a breeding theory I developed. If anyone is interested or needing any help in their programs Id be happy to help or just discuss the topic with anyone who shares my interest in breeding philosophy. The invitation extends to responsible breeders only pls.
it is very possible that he is pure bred, a lot of purebred Pitts end up in the pound
