It depends on the stick of butter. The standard sticks are changing. The brand of butter I like the most now comes in eight sticks (four tablespoons each) instead of the standard four sticks (eight tablespoons each) per pound of butter.
If you look at the individual wrappers on each stick you'll see them marked with tablespoon, cup and weight measures. :-)
William, Not all butter wrappers have the markings on them. Regular size stick = 8 Tbsps. 4Tbsps =1/4 cup so 8 Tbsps =1/2 cup, 1/3 cup is roughly 6 1/4 Tbsps. Hope this helps you. Banty
I need 2/3 cup of butter, how many Tablespoons do I need?
Hi Banty, I've been cooking for over four decades and have never come across a stick of butter that didn't have measurement markings on the stick wrappers. In hearing this news I am now so very, very curious which brands don't (have the markings) and I can't afford, nor use enough butter, to warrant purchase testing :-o
Do you or anyone here at ThriftyFun happen to know which brand(s) don't have markings?
Hello William,
1LB = 454 grams. One stick is 1/4 LB or 113.5 grams and YES it's 8 tablespoons.
Measurements you'll come across that all weigh the same as one stick are:
4 ounce
1/2 cup
8 tablespoons
24 teaspoons.
Happy cooking / baking!
Roxanne
