I had bleached light ash blonde hair, but was constantly chasing the brass away and doing root - too much work. I have been trying to get back to my natural hair color which is a level 6. A week ago I used a level 7n permanent Wella Colorcharm with 20 vol developer (more than 50% gray) and it came out auburn. I want to go to 6a, is it too soon? My hair is short, and feels a little dry. My goal is to eventually go natural, embrace my gray and natural color.

You need to wait at least two weeks between chemical treatments. Deep condition to get rid of the dryness.
Yes, too soon. Wait a couple more weeks.
Going to a darker ash color will help tone down the auburn. But remember, the resulting color will be a combination of the auburn and the ash. Dark ash blonde shades can have a green base tone. The corrective color you have chosen could give you the exact color you want. However, depending on how much green is in it, you could end up with an off green cast.
You have waited a week. This is sufficient time. If your hair is somewhat dry, a hot oil treatment the day before the color is applied can help. My preference is to apply Hask Placenta Conditioner immediately before applying the color.
