Here is a tip on the eradication of English ivy, if the plant are the size of the ones I killed on my mother's acreage. The main vines were 4 to 5 inches through and went to the top of 100 foot trees. I took a portable drill and drilled a couple holes in the vine, about 3/8 of an inch in diameter and about 2 to 3 inches deep, at a downward angle. I then squirted straight Roundup in the holes. With the sun out, you could see the vine suck the Roundup into the vine. It kills the whole vine from top to root.

One man's trash is another man's treasure. I wouldn't trade my ivy covered trees for all the tea in China. If mine were as heavily covered as yours, I would have just thinned the ivy. Your trees are/were beautiful.
I agree, likekinds. The ivy-covered trees are so beautiful. I wouldn't touch them.
Here is the Pacific NW, it is considered an invasive species. My sons have had field trips and volunteer activities pulling ivy out of our parks several times.
That said, my brick university building was covered in ivy and it was such a beautiful look.
