I bite my nails and I have done so for around 30 years and I'm 36 years old now. I do it mainly when I get stressed about a situation. Some people have a nervous breakdown, but I bite my nails. That is just me and my different situations that I get in sometimes. They are really short now probably dangerously short. I wonder if there is anything I can do to get them to a normal level again?

If you are a nail bitter and really want to stop one way to do this is to get a manicure and maybe put on some fake nails or even some gel nail polish. It will take time to condition yourself to not do this one. A nail salon is a good place to visit and talk with them to get help and start to get your nails back into condition. Adding loations and oils to the nails also helps to get them stronger and looking better.
I have this problem. I pretty much still bite my nails, but I was trying to let my ring finger in my right hand to grow out when I wanted to learn classical guitar.
What worked for me was to tape up that finger so that I would not bite it. Fake nails would also work.
Also look for a compensatory behaviour, such as chewing gum
