There are special cleaners for marble, and I would recommend one. But if you want, you can mix up a bit of baking soda and water to a thick paste consistency, coat the stained areas and leave for several hours, then rinse with clean water and dry with a cloth. You can also make a paste with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide - (like what you use on cuts), and do the same treatment. If stains are gone, make sure the whole countertop is clean and dry, and use a good marble sealer to help prevent future stains. ***Never use vinegar on marble, as the vinegar is too acidic and will actually eat into marble leaving it looking pitted.
You need to buy cleaner specifically made for Marble counters. Water spots can be caused by hard water or mineral deposits left behind.
Get a special cleaner for marble. Under no circumstances use vinegar.

Water stains can be easily removed from marble with regular marble cleaner or with using Grade 0000 steel wool.
Most marble stains can be removed by using a homemade solution called a poultice - a thick paste
Oil-Based stains can be removed with a poultice with a combination that includes mineral spirits.
Organic stains can be removed with a poultice with 6 percent hydrogen peroxide. Be careful if you are removing a stain from darker colored marble, as hydrogen peroxide can cause the marble to lighten.
