My son spilled hand sanitizer all over my floor. I am not sure what the floor is, I believe it is like a linoleum tile. It has to be cheap because I rent an apartment in a low income apartment complex.

This type of hand sanitizer will eat through the finish of the floors in no time at all. This is very hard to clean up and get off the floor that it has been spilled on. Everyone says that the finish of the floor has been destroyed and now you need to refinish the floor. With the type of floor, you have this could prove to be very difficult to do. You can try to get some good floor cleaner with some wax inside of it and start to apply it to the floor where the product was spilled. What this sounds like to me is that the color of the floor linoleum has been removed and eaten away by this product.
The only thing that you can actually try is to soak this area with some vinegar and allow it to sit on the stain for 15 minutes before you wipe it up. If you still see the stain do this again but this time and add baking soda to the stain and allow this to sit on the floor for another 15 minutes. Now try to scrub the stain with a damp cloth and a scrub brush. You may need to add a new layer of floor wax to the area after you do this.
Sounds like it is some type of inexpensive flooring that color was only on surface and not all the way through the material.
If this is the case, the only thing you might be able to do is to redo the complete floor area.
Since we do not know what type of flooring you have it would be a good idea for you to take several good pictures (you can leave them on your cell phone) and go to a hardware store like Ace or True Value and ask them for help.
I have found that most of the time the employees in these stores are more informed about repairing things than employees in the big stores (not always but usually).
They can figure out what type of flooring you have and will be able to recommend a product you can use to replace the old color.
The initial cost may be a little high but I'm sure you will have to do something to restore the flooring or have to pay for replacement if management checks your apartment.
You will have to give your floor a good cleaning before trying something new or the new product may not adhere properly.
This may be a time you'll have to do your 'repairing' down on your knees so be careful and hopefully all will turn out better than before.
A lesson I learned when I rented was if I fessed up to doing something that caused damage right away, apologized, and offered to pay half to repair it, it was always cheaper than if I let it go and they kept my entire security deposit.
Maybe just ask the landlord for help and get it resolved.
I have found DYI things with lineloeum or tile or wood never work and usually make things worse.
Sometimes it is better to take the high road and just ask for help!
