I was given an older Oster Breadmaker, Model 5849/5840. It does not "look" dirty, but I want to sanitize it before using it. What is the best way to do this?
You will need to use a very damp cloth with a little dish detergent and warm water. Mix the two ingredients together and dip your cloth in the mixture. Wring out as much water as possible so the cloth is almost dry.
First remove the bread pan and wash in soapy water, then using a new paint brush sweep out all the crumbs. the bristles will make it easier to do this. Then using a brillo pad to scrub inside the machine to get off anything caked on.If you give your bread maker a quick wipe down after every use it will be easier to clean.
The basket can be washed in the sink. For the other parts, you can use a cloth with dish detergent
These machines are not difficult to clean as mostly you are just wiping out the inside and anything that is removable.
here is a link about bread makers with lots of information and recipes. The second link is to the manual to your machine (pdf download & printable).
