First off, I am 14 years old. I want to decorate my room. Not so much I need help decorating, just that I need help with the color schemes. My bed spread is a magenta/maroon color, but it still has a hint of pink in it. But I don't know what color I should paint my walls and ceiling to contrast with it. I don't want boring colors, I want funky colors. Like yellow, orange, and other bright colors like that. But they have to contrast with my bed spread. But I don't know what? Help please. Thank you.
Katie
Light Green. I had that color combo for years. I have just changed to gold, black, and leopard. (01/03/2002)

A golden orange and lime green are my daughter's recommendations. She's into bright funky colors.

I don't know if Katie wants the colors to coordinate, to contrast, or to clash. She says contrast, and the ones she mentions certainly do that. Some of them would almost certainly also clash. But if she means she wants something that will contrast but not clash, it is a little more of a challenge.
Some good colors to go with magenta are not the same as good colors for maroon. Magenta is a hot color that goes well with orange-red, turquoise, kelly, goldenrod, eggshell, and the other colors of a Mexican color palette.
For the hot Mexican theme including magenta, I'd recommend neutral walls, and lots of eye-popping colors on accessories. Maybe one wall could be painted a bright color, or blocks of color could be applied to the walls, and of course, the trim can certainly be brilliant colors, but the effect really requires a significant amount of neutral, like the natural stucco color that is so prevalent. If this is the color scheme, then the southwest style is very appropriate and will be available in the right colors. For the best effect, I'd want to use several versions of off-white, such as oatmeal, cream, ecru, and so on to distinguish one neutral object from another.

Go to a paint store and have them show you a color wheel. Choose a color opposite the colors of your bedspread perhaps. You might want to lighten the color so it isn't overwhelming.
A poster above the bed echoing the bedspread colors might lend pizazz. (09/14/2006)

Well Im 15 and just moved, and I could not stand white boring walls. I painted them all pink. It is in between the color of watermelon and hot pink. My bedspread is black and white (reversible). I put my favorite band posters on a wall since I love emo/rock music and then I put my dance pictures on the other walls (I am a ballet dancer) and it looks good. Another idea is choose a color (your fav) to paint your room and learn to make your own duvet cover so you can change the theme of your room anytime. (07/28/2007)

I moved into a new house about 3 months ago and I had a paint party. I invited all me new friends over and we splatterd the walls with different colors it was awesome, then I went to Sears and bought cheap, but cool stuff my room is way better than the old one. (10/02/2007)

You should go with a star theme/Hollywood. Paint your walls hot pink and add some glittery silver stars to them. Paint your old bed and furniture gold. Add some sheer curtains in a lighter pink than the walls. Also add a star beaded curtain and hang it on the window or on your wall. (01/02/2008)

Here is how you should do your room:
If you like outdoors and are looking for some color to paint you room try this: paint the lower parts of your room a bright green the pait the higher part of you walls and your ceiling plain blue. Then you take a paint roller dip it it in white and dab white spots all over your ceiling for clouds. If you walls look to boring put a stripe of wallpaper around the room right above the green. My friend did this with her room and it looks really cool.
If your a funky girl who is need of some bright colors try this: paint you walls orange and hot pink. Then take paint markers and stencil in you name, flowers, or maybe even the year. (You should be able to get the stencils and paint markers at your local craft store.) If your walls still look bare you can take all your family, friends, and your pets pictures and put them on your wall. They will no only make your walls less bare but they'll brighten up your room and make you smile every time.
Hope I could help.

Decorating is easy. Here are some steps that I made up to help everyone.
Some good color schemes ( you can add white):
Keep in mind that it is good to stick with a color scheme, but you can add cool pops of color like a shiny silver lamp or some bright colored pillows. Try and stay away from white walls. (03/13/2008)

I was thinking a neon green with pink polka dots. (04/24/2008)

You can do something with bold colors like deep purple's. You can match it with brown pillows to give a loungy feel. I put a mantle I got from Habitat for Humanity in my room. It gave it a sophisticated and cool feel. (04/25/2008)

If you're looking for cheap, easy ways to redecorate your room, try cutting out fashion ads/photo shoot pages from magazines and sticking them on a wall or door, all aligned with no gaps.
It looks amazing. I have it on my door and the corner of 2 of the walls above my bed. I also find awesome things at $2 shops such as pirate flags and fake flowers and just stick them anywhere they'll fit. My room is all brown, but I managed to make it super colorful and it still looks good. (12/01/2008)

I personally love pink and black. Since my parents won't let me paint my walls black I'm doing a neon pink with black paint for quotes on my wall. Like a quote I put up from Gerard Way was something like "no matter what anybody says to you, no matter what anybody does to you, you stay who you are" -Gerard Way (12/22/2008)
