This is a recipe from my sister that my family has enjoyed for years. Her husband was in the Air Force and they travelled to many foreign places. She picked up this recipe in Germany.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 2 to 3 hours
Total Time: 3 hours
Yield: Serves 4 to 6
Ingredients:
- 2 Tbsp olive or salad oil
- 4 lb beef stew meat or round steak, cut in 1/2" pieces
- 1/4 cup flour
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 16 oz. can diced tomatoes, drained
- 1/4 cup chopped parsley
- 1 1/2 tsp marjoram
- 2 Tbsp paprika
- 1 1/2 tsp thyme
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 to 1 tsp caraway seed
- dash of pepper
- 1/4 cup sour cream for topping
Steps:
- Add oil in large pot and heat. Add meat and brown on all sides. Add onions and saute until tender. Stir in flour until smooth.
- Add broth, tomatoes, and remaining ingredients, except sour cream. Simmer 2 to 3 hours, uncovered or until meat is fork tender. Stir occasionally.
- Serve with sour cream on top of noodles or rice. Serves 8.
