I have a Huskee riding mower that we bought used last year. When we went to look at it, it started fine. We turned it off loaded, it on the trailer, and came home. When we went to get it off the trailer it wouldn't start. So since last year we have been jumping it off with the car every time we want to cut grass. When we jump it with the car it starts and runs fine, no problems while cutting the grass, it doesn't go dead on us or anything like that, but it will not start without jumping it.
It's time I got this thing fixed and I'd rather try to do it myself than pay someone a 2 week paycheck to fix it if possible. Also when we bought it the guy said the battery was new, but I have not had it checked. Please help me!

It really sounds like the battery. You can have batteries tested for free at various places. Also check spark plugs. When they are getting old it tends to do the same thing as the battery (no spark to start).
It really sounds like your battery is not up to par as it takes a lot more battery power to start the engine than it does to keep it running. This works the same way as your electric lights and appliances - they use a lot more current when they kick on than during the time they run for several minutes (economists say not to turn off a light if you plan to need it again within 15 minutes because it takes more current to start it again than it does to leave it on).
You should also check your spark plug and filter as both of these do not last forever and should be replaced at least every year.
Be sure to set your mower up properly before you store it away for the winter. There are lots of sites on the Internet about how to do this when the time comes.
