Why are the leaves on my hydrangea bushes turning brown?

First, make sure your hydrangeas are in the right place. They should be in an area that isn't full sun. In Texas, we always grow them on the north side of a house in either partial sun or shade. If that's it, how often are you watering? Is the soil moist or dry before you re-water? (06/12/2010)

Hi I have 3 well established hydrangeas trees been in place over 20yrs. Did prune back a little last autumn, but today for the first time ever Ive noticed the leaves are going brown. We do get plenty of rain here where I live so would have thought it wasn't that causing it. Any advice would be welcome .
My hydranges are in full sun its also in a patio pot a good size ie not to small , edges of flowers turning brown , watered every second day ,I now put a brolly over it during the hottest part of the day am now watching to see if this makes any difference.
