I have finally gotten my dream stove that is a 1941 Roper with 6 burners, 2 oven, and 2 broilers. I love the 1940's look and am slowly incorporating my kitchen to resemble a 1940's farm kitchen.
I am needing help as to what to use for window coverings other than feed sacks (I have feed sacks used elsewhere in my home and would rather not repeat in the kitchen). I have 9 (yes 9) kitchen windows.
My floor is 150 year old barn wood, and I need ideas for a rug for in front of the sink. I am thinking of removing the cabinet doors under the sink, and putting up a sink curtain, which was common for that era.
My kitchen is painted a bright, sunny John Deere yellow, and houses lots of antique items leading up to the 1940's.

Try hanging aprons or tea towels from the era as curtains, even napkins if you only want a valance. In all cases, use covered wire and eye hooks and just tie or clothes pin (colored plastic to coordinate with colors in linens would look nice).
Mary Lou has a great idea. Here's another. I googled "1940s kitchen decor and got so many ideas you won't believe.

Good luck. As for the rugs, why not either make them or commission a local artist who works at home to make some. Good luck!!
What a fab idea! I guess you have rag rugs in other rooms, I remember coconut matting in most kitchens in England, safer and doesn't get so soggy. I didn't live on a farm though. Love it!
What about a nice gingham check? I think that would look very nice. Another type of curtain that I remember in my grandmother's house were white lace, although I am not sure if she would have used those in the kitchen. However, if you have windows that are "dining area" you might think about having them in that section of the room, since you have so many windows.
Sandi, Thanks for the pictures. A few I had already seen, but there were several in there I had not seen as well. Keep the ideas coming!!
