You can Google Sears or Montgomery Ward Christmas catalogs from years past and can copy the decorations and clothing from those times to decorate your float.

Interesting theme! I suggest music, if it's possible to rig a wireless speaker on your float. Lots of old Christmas albums are available in thrift stores with stars singing favorites that ppl still like today.
