Wow!! I love them but I can see why you are having a hard time dating these. They are lovely!!

They have lot going on with the harp back and the fleur de lis decoration and the spool style legs, and leather? upholstery---none of which points to one year or style.

Do they have a marking on the underside? Can you tell if the upholstery is original to the piece? Is it leather or vinyl or leatherette (the precursor of pleather)?

This could be anywhere from a late 19th century piece through the 1950s if it is all original. The upholstery and tacks have a 1940s feel to them (so if the piece is old, it could have been redone in the 1940s). What puzzles me most are the legs, which I usually associate with later --1950s-1970s) pieces--but I know that the later pieces were usually reproductions of older pieces--so that would be neat if they were 19th century).

Did you get them from a dealer? Perhaps they can give you any history they know If not, I would take them to a reputable vintage/antique dealer to get more info (talk about getting a value for insurance purposes) and have them help you place them.

Post back what you learn as I want to know more! They are really neat pieces!! Thanks for sharing.

Hi thankyou for your reply. I bought them from a lady on face book for £20. No makers marks on any of them I can take them to out local suction house for appraisal. It's real leather very thick.

Lovely chairs.
I'm not sure the upholstery is original but the condition of the chairs certainly look like they have been well cared for.

It does not sound like you are in the US but when checking on appraisals be sure you find out what they will charge and how specific the information will be. Private appraisals are usually expensive.

There are some free appraisal sites online that really do an excellent job.
I have used several and found they give me more information than local appraisers furnished.

If you decide to try one of these appraisal sites be sure to furnish more pictures - closeups are good and under the seats would be good - front and back pictures as well as measurements.

Barnebys also does online appraisals but they charge $17.
