Identifying Bugs?

A magnified bug on a white background. These tiny black bugs move very slow and they don't jump or fly, but they put off a power bite. Can anyone tell me what they are please?

I live in the southeast part of Alabama, a little town called Ozark. I really need help on this. These are microscopic parasites or something. They bite me day and night. No one will believe me when I tell them about these bugs. I feel as tho I'm losing my mind..

There are several names that these bugs are - (1) no-see-ums,
(2) sand flies, (3) biting midges, (4) punkies. They are horrible and bite like mosquitoes. Get some mint oil and keep it applied to your skin all the time. The bugs will stop hitting you because they have a very hard time to bit through the oil on your skin.

They are most likely no-seeums. They are a very tiny gnat that fit easily through window screening. They are most active later in the day and through the night. I take my screens out several times through the summer months, and spray them with insect repellent.

It helps keep the little nasty gnats from coming through the screens and biting me while I sleep. If I get up in the morning with itchy welts, I know it's time to spray the screens again. Good luck.

Since you say they do not fly it would be difficult to say they are no-see-ums as most of these are flying insects.

Send your question and pictures to your county extension agency and they will probably be able to help you and tell you how to get rid of them.
