What is this on my dog's face?

A vet will need to tell you if it is a histiocytoma or something else. Please, please, please, check it out with the vet ASAP!!!! I cannot stress this enough! We though the growth on my sister dog was a harmless histiocytoma, but it turned out to be a rare cancer. She is now fine, but had to have it removed. It is critical to catch this early and get treatment if needed. Please post back with an update. Prayers for healing!
That looks very bad. Normally lumps like this form a head-on them but yours looks like it has popped or sunken inward. This is hard to say but by the looks of it the vet should see this and I am sure he will recommend that you operate on this and have it removed.
A visit to your vet ASAP is warranted. As a vet tech, to me it looks like the sore from a Botfly larva. A Botfly lays an egg on an animal's fur or skin, and when the egg hatches, the larva burrows into the skin, and lives there for awhile, growing and feeding off it's host. When the larva is ready to pupate into an adult, it burrows back out from under the skin, leaving a gaping hole.
This does not look good. We get many animals on this site with bumps. This one is the worse looking of all of them. It is almost hard to look at. Please see a Vet as soon as you are able. You owe it to your fur baby to get the answers. Take Care!
Hi,
I am so sorry you dog is dealing with this. I think this is something that is not normal, from looking at how it is forming.
