Identifying Little Black Bugs?

I bought instant potato flakes but did not open the box immediately. When I got around to using it I opened the box and the bag of potato flakes was severely infested with little black bugs. The bag had never been opened. What are they?

First: You probably need to check all of your packaged goods to see if any are also contaminated. You will not always be able to see the bugs, but you can shake the package/box to see if any 'power' falls out - a sure sign of bugs in the package.
All that I can tell you is to read some 'answers' and then take whatever steps necessary to eliminate any contaminated foods.
I have copied my answer from a previous post.

"You undoubtedly have one of the 'pantry' beetles (there are several but not much difference in type of damage they do.
The best methods may be to remove everything from your pantry and leave it empty over night and that way you can be sure there are no bugs hiding in the pantry.

You can place all of your grain products in the freezer as this will kill the bugs also. It is okay to remove them after the one night in the freezer.
You will also be able to see if any bugs are on the counter where you stored your other groceries overnight.
Once you find a bug it is best to put every type of grain food in secure containers; even if it is just freezer baggies or double regular baggies but sealable containers are best.
There are some plastic containers that are very good (maybe 4 lock down pieces) but I do not trust the 'common' plastic containers that some people use.
I use Diatomaceous Earth because I know it works for almost every bug but others use herbs and such. If you clean it properly and fix your food in containers, you'll probably take care of the bug problem."
