I know it's extremely unlikely, but can anyone help me identify which company made this?
This tiger has been my best friend for as long as I can remember. I received him sometime in the early 1990s, likely 1991-1993.
I would never sell him, so "value" is unimportant. He's my most valued item and will forever stay that way. I'm just very curious who made him.
Unfortunately I cut his tag off many many years ago and the person who bought it for me is now gone. (Though I doubt he'd have remembered where he bought it anyway.)
He is about 7 inches long (excluding the tail which is about 4 inches). He has a hard nose and eyes. He used to have whiskers. His tail is more flat than rounded as some of my other tiger plushies are. He is not filled with beads or anything.
I've tried Google/eBay searching several times over the years, but no luck. Does anyone recognize him?

Try writing to Applause and Gund. They were popular during that time.
Yes! Thank you. Applause made him. I tried searching Gund and other companies, but I missed Applause. With that I found this: m.ebay.com.sg/
Thank you!
That was quick and you are very lucky to have found one that could be even similar considering the age and how many have been made.
Judy sure hit that one on the nose.
I did notice several similar ones but they were larger than yours and they were the Bengal tiger so that one may be your only choice.
I definitely didn't expect to find out so quickly (or at all).
I should have tried asking earlier, haha.
Yea, I always found a few bigger ones that looked like maybe they were the company that made mine, but I couldn't be sure. As soon as I searched Applause though I saw some of their others and saw a lot of similarities.
I'm not necessarily looking to buy another though, just wanted to know more about him. Though... maybe I will. :)
We see a lot of questions about older (well loved) plush animals that someone would really like to know more about and maybe (?) have another just like it.
Unfortunately, we are not usually able to find an exact match and sometimes cannot find out very much about even the real brand name. It is disappointing to the person asking the question and also to the ones who try to help.
So I just want to mention that finding an exact match (from so long ago) is a rarity so if you think for even a fleeting moment that you might want to buy another one to go with this well loved one, now would be the best (and probably only) time to do so.
The seller of the one you are looking at is not asking a high price so think quickly as it could be gone tomorrow (or it could be for sale for months) but slow decisions can sometimes make for disappointments.
Yea. I gave it more consideration after posting that. I found another (closer to mine 1988, rather than 1998 [assuming this posting read the date right]. Pretty much the same but without the little ribbon scarf) that sold a few years ago (at a higher price).
Being that these appear to be the only two sold on ebay (possible there was more that I couldn't find) and that it was only $10 That's pretty much nothing. It's hard to find a plush made today at that price even. And if it's this hard to find it now, it'll only get more difficult later.
So I went for it. :)
Thank you!
I am glad you bought this as I really believe you would have regretted it later on and I really hope he is just as cute as he looks in the listing.
Merry Christmas!
This is so cool that you found an answer so quickly!! I sold lots of these at the Hallmark store. They were quite popular, so I imagine there may be a steady stream of them coming back on eBay and Etsy as people move on and want space back.
I do recommend if you are ever going to buy plush online to read the sellers comments very carefully and look to see if they have sold others AND have good feedback. You may also want to see if they are coming from a personal collection or just someone who buys out stuff from Goodwill or estate sales or storage lockers and sells them off. The ideal would be new old stock (abbreviated NOS) where someone buys out a Hallmark store storage room or such and sells off the items. And yes, there could easily be things tucked away in the shelves of a store that are that old. We had high shelves in our store that often produced very old mystery items! It happens!
There are too many issues with bed bugs and other critters hijacking rides to new homes in stuffed animals. Safety first!!
So happy you found your answer!! Take care!!
