It LOOKS like a light-duty double-wheeled adjustable cultivator (not that I've ever seen one) without the blade. Whatever it is, the engineering to permit positioning of the handles and wheels is really interesting and special.

Its an "Adjustable Double Wheel Hand Cultivator". The mechanism between the handles allowed the user to adjust the spacing between the wheels, as well as the depth of digging down into the soil.

Hope this helps.

I couldn't find anything with # X106. There were several makers of items like this cultivator, but "Planet Jr." and "Missouri Mule by Central Quality Industries" came up the most, of named cultivators. These type of walk-behind cultivators were made in at least the 1850's right through the early 1900's.

I found nothing about diamond or no. 9 pertaining to cultivators. I DID find an interesting youtube video about the history of Planet Jr. cultivators/wheeled hoes. If interested, here is the link:

It's a 34:03 minute video and the Planet Jr. part starts at 10:00 minutes. Hope you enjoy if you watch.
