Identifying Old Farm Equipment

An old metal piece of farm equipment. Please help me identify this! How old is it and what was this used for? I found it completely buried in my backyard while digging a pond last year. It has (pitch) forks on the back and I believe we have the seat, if it should be attached to a heavy duty metal shaft and hitch point. There are fields attached to my property so I'm sure it was used here! I would love to know more.

This appears to be a type of cultivator that would have been pulled by tractor or draught animal. You can see the chain-drive mechanism attached to the wheel shaft, so as the cultivator was pulled, the wheels moved the chain-drive for the cultivating tines...your "pitchforks", that would dig into the soil and loosen and break up the clods of dirt for planting. Most likely, this is from the mid to late 1800's.

I think this is a horse-drawn cultivator.

This looks like it would make rows for planting seeds.

This is a antique Cultivator, also refers to frames with teeth(also called Shanks) that plows and digs through the soil, this piece was made for a tractor, and some earlier ones were pulled by horse/mule. Here are images of antique and newer Cultivators- www.bing.com/.../search?q=antique+horse%2ftractor.... - here is some history on this antique piece- en.wikipedia.org/.../cultivator

Neat find.
This is a kind of mystery but I feel sure it is some type of cultivator or tiller but I have never been able to find one that has 'pitch fork' tines and springs.

I believe it was set up for some special type of job and your piece probably has several pieces missing.
If you join this site you can post pictures and I feel sure you will receive a lot of answers as these people love these antique/vintage pieces and know a lot about them.
Your pictures do not show the piece very well as it is all mixed in with the leaves. If possible, you should move it to the solid ground so maybe the pieces could be seen more clearly. Several pictures from all angles would get you more positive answers.

I see you have this listed for sale on eBay (my son was looking at it but changed his mind).
Good luck and let us know if it sells.

My husband says it looks like a three row cultivator.

Hi folks, I'm new here.
I was wondering if anyone has any information about this implement? A friend of mine has a nearly identical implement in her woods on Cape Cod MA. A central gearbox and drive chain to offset tines that rotate as the implement drives forward.

The most interesting thing are the little oilers on all of the bushings. It is amazing.
