I want to start identifying some dolls from my father's collection. How do I proceed from here?

Identifying Porcelain Dolls
Step 1
Undress doll and look for markings.
Step 2
Marking can be on back of neck, back, chest, scalp or bottoms of feet.
Step 3
Try to match markings at www.dollreference.com. They also have a blog where you can upload photos and have other members help you.
Good luck!
There is lots and lots of doll info on this amazing site that you are now! Here are a few links:

If you are asking to sell, let me know and I can give you some tips on how to value them!
Pghgirl40 has given very clear guidelines as identifying dolls is sometimes a slow process.
You do not say how many dolls are in the collection but if there are quite a few it is always best to set about 5 in a group and work with their identity and always keep good records of each doll so you will not have to do the research over again.
If you decide to ask for help you should take several good pictures of the doll and give as much information as you have available (always check for markings/symbols first). Here is a link to a good doll forum but be sure to only ask about one doll at a time.
