So far I have found 2 of these bugs in my home. When I try to smoosh them they don't want to die right away. I really have to put on pressure to kill them. I've been researching on line and can't figure out what they are.

This looks like a type of ant.
Looks like a Melanophthalma Minute Brown Scavenger Beetle (aka minute beetle).
If that is what it is, they are harmless. Just vacuum them up or take them outside and far from the house, then clean the area well.
Look for debris around your windows and perimeter of the house and get rid of it...they like to gather there and then come in the house to get warm.
On second thought, I think this is a drugstore beetle...or a pantry beetle--they feed on dry goods...check your pantry carefully for any infestation. I brought these home once from the store in a bag of flour. I had to dump all of my dry good and clean the pantry.
