Does anyone know what kind of bug this is? I tried getting a closer picture, but my camera wouldn't focus. It is a small dark brown oval-shaped bug. I find them randomly throughout the house.

This is a hard-shelled beetle. You can spray with an insecticide if you have a lot.
Looks like a roly-poly. Does it curl up into a ball if you touch it?
If it is, just sweep it up and throw it outside.
They could be carpet beetles-does it have a brown and black pattern on their back? Here is a link to match to see what yours is:
If this is what you have it is best to just vacuum them all up and clean the affected areas with hot water. You will also want to check outside and clean up any yard debris from around your house and seal cracks in windows or doors or bricks. They are coming into the house for food and warmth.

an exterminator came by and said the little brown bugs were some sort of pantry beetle and were harmless! but he did a general extermination in the interior and exterior of the house
