I have this Brandt piece that I think is a book stand. I'd like to know what it's officially called and if it is missing any pieces. It seems to adjust, but only a little, and I am wondering about the two holes underneath that kind of look like they take pegs like for a table leaf. The underside seems much too complicated just to tilt a book stand a couple inches.
This is only for curiosity. I grew up in Hagerstown and the Brandts were our nextdoor neighbors on Fountainhead Road.

If you look at it closely you'll probably realize that it could not be a 'drafting' table. The shape is all wrong as all drafting tables (drawing board, desk easel) are fully adjustable; even to the point of laying flat.

I have seen a similar table in an antique shop that was used to display an ancient map (it had glass over the map) but I'm not sure about this being the best description for your table.
You might try posting pictures on one of these sites to see if you can find more information.

This is gorgeous. I have never seen one like it. I think it is drafting table because of the size. I think it is too big to be a book stand or a music stand.
I am going to see if I can find any old Brandt catalogs.
It is gorgeous!!
This does not look like a book stand at all to me. It is a drafting table and the holes are normally to place the square on so that you can move it up and down to draw straight lines with it. The reason it only moves a little is that the drafting table do not move much at all.
This is a beautiful and unique piece, that appears to be a drafting art table. The holes are for adjusting the table. Here is a link to a company that appraises and gives the value of Brandt furniture.
