Identifying a Houseplant - closeup of medium green foliage plantI bought this plant from a nursery and they have no idea what it is called. I would appreciate it if someone could help identify it. Its has a very unique bloom with a not very pleasant smell though. Thanks.

It looks like a peace lily

I agree with peace lily. Why dont you go back to the nursery and have them identify it?

The formal name is a Spathiphyllum. This plant prefers shade. If it ever looks wilty, just soak it in water for 10 minutes and it will perk right up.

Thanks for all your responses. I have peace lillies at home too. In the case of the mystery plant, the flower is close to the ground.

The leaves are different from those of the peace lily.

Maybe contact your local home extension office if you are in the US:

If you are outside of the US, some colleges with agriculture departments have this service.

Finally, mystery solved. Its an orchid called the Orchidantha fimbriata Holttum, a native of Peninsular Malaysia. Thanks to all who responded.

WOW!! Thank you for posting back! Are you in Malaysia? I am so happy to learn something new today. I just googled it and they are lovely!! How did you figure it out?

Correction, its "a flower similar to an orchid" and not an orchid. Yes, i am from Malaysia.

We don't see unique things like this where I am in Pennsylvania! I think she was accurate when looking at photos! It has been a pleasure learning from you and her! Blessings!

I later found out that the person who identified it is a Botany Major. She was spot on!

Thanks for sharing such an unusual plant.
Now you can return to the nursery and tell them what they sold you!

I found it difficult to find any care instructions for your plant but finally located this site.
